  37.     CDValet is the smallest and most powerful audio CD player
  38.     you will ever try.  CDValet combines a small design,
  39.     incredible ease of use, and the power of the Internet to
  40.     give you the absolute best way to play audio CDÆs on your
  41.     Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0 computer.

  43.     CDValet uses a very small CD Control Panel to provide all
  44.     the functionality of a portable CD player and much, much
  45.     more, including:
  46.         - Play, Pause, Stop
  47.         - Next Track, Previous Track
  48.         - Fast Forward, Fast Rewind

  50.         - Repeat All Tracks, Repeat Current Track

  58.     CDValet makes itself even more powerful by being fully
  59.     integrated with the CD information database named CDDB(*).
  60.     CDDB is a huge database of CD titles that contains the
  61.     artist names, titles, track titles, and other information
  62.     for tens of thousands of CD's and is always growing.
  63.     CDValet uses CDDB to look for information about each CD
  64.     you play on your computer.  CDValet can directly query any
  65.     of the many Internet CDDBD(*) servers around the world and
  66.     supports most firewall/proxy server configurations.
  67.     Alternatively, you can use a local copy of CDDB that you
  68.     download to your computer.  You can also help CDDB to
  69.     continue to grow by using CDValet to add new entries to
  70.     the CDDB database.  By having built in SMTP and MAPI
  71.     e-mail support, CDValet allows you to submit CD
  72.     information that you have entered for addition to CDDB.

  74.     Each time CDValet finds CD title information using CDDB or
  75.     you enter the title information yourself, it is stored in
  76.     the CDValet Personal Database.  This database becomes a
  77.     catalog of all your CDÆs.  To manage your Personal
  78.     Database, you can use the CDValet CD Database Manager.
  79.     The CD Database Manager gives you the ability to search,
  80.     view, edit, print, and export the entries in your CDValet
  81.     Personal Database.

  105. 2 - Registering CDValet
  106.     -------------------

  108.     The shareware version of CDValet will let you try all features
  109.     for 30 days.  After 30 days, the CDDB lookup functions in
  110.     CDValet will cease to function and you must register to obtain
  111.     the unrestricted (no nag screen) version.

  113.     The registration fee for CDValet is $10.00 US.  When I receive
  114.     your registration, I will send you your Username and
  115.     Registration Code by e-mail.

  117.     Registration entitles you to all future versions of CDValet.

  158. 3 - Installing CDValet
  159.     ------------------
  160.  
  161.     1. If your distribution is a zip file, unzip it using an
  162.        appropriate unzip utility (I prefer and recommend
  163.        WinZip which is also available as shareware.)
  164.  
  165.     2. To install CDValet, run: setup.exe.
  166.  
  167.     3. Follow the instructions provided.

  170.     The default installation options are as follows:
  171.  
  172.     Directory:        C:\Program Files\CDValet
  173.     Program Group:    CDValet
  174.  
  175.     The installation for CDValet places the executables,
  176.     and other related files into the user specified directory.
  177.     It then adds a few icons to the specified program folder.
  178.     Finally, it modifies the registry entries that determine
  179.     the application to start when an audio CD is placed in your
  180.     CD-ROM drive(s).

  182. 4 - Uninstalling CDValet
  183.     --------------------
  184.  
  185.     To uninstall CDValet, open the 'Control Panel' and select
  186.     the 'Add/Remove Programs' icon.  Select 'CDValet Version 3.31'
  187.     from the displayed list and press the 'Add/Remove...' button.
  188.     Confirm the remove and CDValet will be removed from
  189.     your system.
  190.  
  191.     NOTE: Due to a limitation of Install Shield, the un-install of
  192.           CDValet will not restore CDPlayer as the application to
  193.           auto-run for audio CD's.  You will need to copy the
  194.           provided file 'cdplayer.reg' from the CDValet directory
  195.           before you un-install CDValet.  Then un-install CDValet
  196.           and then double click on the file 'cdplayer.reg'.  This
  197.           will restore the CDPlayer as the application to auto-run
  198.           for audio CD's.

  202. 5 - Notes for Previous Users
  203.     ------------------------

  205.     When you run CDValet the first time, it will attempt to copy
  206.     existing database files from the EasyCD2 directory if it
  207.     exists.  Once these files have been copied, it will be safe
  208.     to uninstall EasyCD2 using the "Add/Remove Programs" applet
  209.     in the Control Panel.
  210.  
  211.     NOTE: In some cases, the un-installation of EasyCD2 will
  212.           disable the auto-play feature for CDValet.  If this
  213.           happens, just run CDValet from the Start menu and
  214.           CDValet will ask you if you would like to set it as
  215.           the default audio CD player.  Answer 'Yes' on the
  216.           dialog box, and this should re-enable auto-play.

  253.     CDValet distribution is not modified in any way, and you
